Roar, Shor, aur? Made in Punjab!!

Oh yaar! Ki farak penda hai? Hun to mithai shitai bhi baaki hai. Itne main hi pet tight ho gya?

That was the voice in my head when I heard that I had to eat dessert at this super awesome restaurant a few weeks ago. I will not reveal the name of the place right away. By the language, you must have figured it has got something to do with the state that starts with “P”

This restaurant opened with great fanfare in the month of September. Though bogged down by external forces and its actual launch date pushed quite a few times, they did create some shor-sharaba! Located in the heart of the Bengaluru at UB city, this place is not to be missed.

The Flavours of the Rains at ITC Gardenia

badgeMalnadu, pronounced as Male (Rain) Nadu (State), is part of our glorious state comprising of cities like Chikmagalur, Hassan, Shivamogga, Coorg, the whole belt of rain forests. This region usually has rain through out the year and which is why it is called Male- Nadu.

I was invited to the Malnadu festival that is on right now at The Cubbon Pavilion in ITC Gardenia. Curated by Chef Mohan Rao from Shivamogga, it has been on since 19th September until 25th September. The festival showcases some of the best dishes that are prepared in this region, both vegetarian and Non-vegetarian. The Malnadu region is famous for its use of spices that bring in heat into your body like Pepper, Cardamom, extensive use of Bamboo shoots, sprouts, beans, Raw Banana etc.

Earn while you DineOut

BookPayEarn. 3 words but when put together, they let you, Dineout at ease. I was recently invited to Nimisseire to try out their all new lunch buffet that is available over the weekdays. The buffet has a large spread of their signature dishes that make sure you eat at peace and enjoy it at the same time.

The buffet has a long spread of salads, Indian vegetarian, non vegetarian and you are served a nice platter of grilled veggies/ meat as appetizers. The vegetarian buffet like other restaurants has 3 vegetables, 1 dal and steamed rice, Pulao/ Biriyani.

The buffet started off with a nice platter of super tasty, mouth melting corn tikkis, grilled broccoli and vegetable skewers. Quickly polishing off one after the other, we were served the Watermelon Pani Puri which I personally think is a nice twist to the traditional chat. Trust Chef Nimish to surprise you everytime.

We moved on the main course and my fellow bloggers for the first time thought the veg spread was much better tasting than the Non-veg one. I am not sure, but if you feel the same let me know.
One special mentioned to the Aloo Gnocchi Sabzi, which for me was the highlight of the buffet. The other sides were standard ones with Paneer.

In desserts there was one thing that just stole the show, it was ‘Shahi Tukda’. Diners were just waiting to get a bite of this delicious Indian dessert after finishing the wholesome meal. The staff really found it difficult to catch up with the pace Shahi Tukda was flying off the table and I don’t blame them at all. Other desserts too made their presence felt.

Talking about how we landed up there, Dineout, India’s leading table reservation app had reserved a table for us to come experience the same. Dineout currently has this exciting feature where you get to earn whenever you Book a table through them. There is cashback, offers and much much more that they have to offer and I personally think that is a very exciting feature.

Overall, I went back to work with a tummy full of happy food and I think for the price that they are offering this spread, it is worth every penny if you are a vegetarian.

What: Lunch Buffet
Where: Nimisserie, 120, Off Wood Street, Ashok Nagar, Brigade Road
When: Monday to Saturday
Price: INR 650 + tax

Timings: 12 noon to 3pm

Mind, Music and Scotch

My #LoveScotch affair continues this week with experiences of Mind, Magic and Music! This week we were invited to be part of a pub crawl along with Bengaluru's super awesome Nakul Shenoy and the singing sensation Anushka Manchanda! The evening entailed candid conversations and precious moments around Scotch whisky which began at Permit Room and ended at Arbor.
The evening marked the celebration of everything that gives Scotch Whisky its unique character, flavour and personality, as Anushka and Nakul shared their experiences about their favourite liquids. The two celebrities got behind the bar and tried their hand at creating signature serves and exotic cocktails.

The spirited evening got even more interesting when Anushka broke into an impromptu gig that got the guest grooving to her beats while Nakul mesmerized one and all with his mind bending skills.
Anushka Manchanda quite cheekily mentioned that  “Scotch is the world’s favourite whisky and my love for it is timeless. My father’s favourite Scotch Whisky is Johnnie Walker Black Label and hence mine too! Whenever and wherever I globe trot I always bring him a bottle of his favorite Scotch Whisky and It’s almost like a ritual now. It's the first whisky I knew, and the one I enjoy sipping the most.”

Also the Master Mind Reader, Nakul quipped, “I enjoy and savour my glass of Vat69 Scotch Whisky. It embodies the spirit of being unique and doing things differently which resonates with me. The pub crawl was amazing fun and a great way to showcase our love for Scotch Whisky. I now realize it is no easy task to make cocktails as it needs skill and technique to do so. Whether neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail, there is no right or wrong way to drink Scotch whisky, as long as you enjoy it, that’s all that matters.”

Here's what the celebrities made along with step by step preparation:

  • Black and White: Orange and Mint Julep

45ml Black and White, 4 slices of orange, 8-10 mint leaves, topped with Ginger ale. This drink is built in a hi-ball glass over cubed ice and stirred quickly before service.

Share your love for scotch with this sweet and refreshing drink -grainy and sweet notes of this exceptionally smooth Scotch whisky combined with the citrusy notes of orange pronounced with an aroma of mint.

  • Black Dog Black Reserve: Sunset Cinnamon
45ml Black Dog Black Reserve, 10 ml Cinnamon syrup, 2 of Maraschino Cherries, 5 dashes Angostura bitters. Stir all the ingredients over ice and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Unwind yourself with our twist on the classic American cocktail, a rich sweetness from cinnamon stirred with Scotch and bitters served on the rocks.

  • Red Label: The Red Label Mule
45ml Johnnie Walker Red Label, 2 squeezes fresh lime, 2 dashes of Angostura bitters and topped with Ginger ale. This drink is built in a hi-ball glass over cubed ice and stirred quickly before service to mix.

This simple serve displays Johnnie Red label at its finest, marrying the spice and smoky notes with ginger ale, a squeeze of citrus and a splash of bitters.

  • Black Label: West Coast Julep
45ml Johnnie Walker Black Label, 20 ml ginger infused honey syrup, 30ml apple juice, 10 fresh mint leaves, 5 ml lime juice. Add all ingredients to shaker and shake hard. Then double strain into a rocks glass, add crushed ice and serve with a fresh mint sprig garnish.

The Perfect Gift- For every man in your life...

Ah! A post of ages on my blog. I have been on a sabbatical. People have been wanting to bump me off for not doing what I love doing and the first on the list is my wife!

Now that I am writing again, it is about something I have extensively written about earlier. I truly believe in this subject and the power of this product. It is my dear bottle of Scotch Whisky. Which man, who knows his Scotch extensively, wish not to get another one for his closet? Every man would right?

That is precisely why I am writing on the Scotch Whisky collection from United Spirts, which is the perfect gift for a man! Hence #ScotchAsAGift. I would love it if someone gifted my Black Dog Triple Reserve, or a fine Black and White to keep my evenings...'sober'.

The SWC was unveiled on Thursday at Taj West End Bengaluru in the presence of 3 stunning beauties- The Black Dog, VAT 69 and Black and White! Sounds good? I do not think so. There has to be more. How about Chitrangda Singh, Shibani Dandekar and Lisa Hayden? This combo seems to go well is my guess. ;)

These celebrities launched the SWC along with Nitesh Chhapru, Head of Marketing: Premium Core Portfolio, USL who mentioned that the need of the hour was something that most men preferred and with the gifting industry, right now worth a billion dollars in the country, this just adds to it.

How many times have we heard our friends, especially women complain that they got you a certain gift because they couldn't find that 'perfect' gift for you. My answer is, ladies you now have what every man needs.

The wonderful evening was hosted by the super funny and talented Anu Menon who spoke at length about her mishaps with gifts to the men in her life to finding the perfect combination that would make her husband love her as much he loved his bottles of Scotch Whisky.

We also had Chitrangda, Shibani and Lisa talk at length about how difficult it was to zero in on something after lot of running and planning. However with the SWC, it will never remain the same. From Chitrangda mentioning gifting one to her perfectionist father, to Lisa mentioning that she would gift the Black Dog to a friend who has just graduated or been promoted, and Shibani talking about the ease of knowing people's likes and dislikes through Social media, the evening covered all.

I am now secretly wishing my wifey reads this and gifts me one soon ;)
