An Afternoon with Amrut.

Amrut Distilleries recently held a blind whiskey tasting in The Glass House, on Lavelle Road here in Bangalore.Initially I never liked whiskey or scotch. I am a hard core Rum fan. But then I have started to not just enjoy an evening with Whiskey but also to try and find out the taste Flavor and the palate of it.

All this was promised when I signed up for the Blind Whiskey tasting at The Glass House, which is breathtakingly beautiful, the unique blend of glass concrete and steel make the place look so elegant, the lighting with the beautiful ceiling adds to the magic.

Have you taken #TheRedDare?

I have fond memories of brushing my teeth at unsual places. As A kid, when ever we went on a trip with family, we would usually end up brushing on roads, roadside dhabas, bakeries and what not. That was when we were kids. After we grew up it became a little intimidating and embarrassing to do such things.

The fear of people staring at you, giving you that disapproving look got to you. The last I brushed in an unusual place was on a train! Nothing more bizzare than that I guess. It was when we got the Dabur #TheRedDare, I was a little confused. I wasn't sure what I was to do. The letter said I was the chosen one to complete the dare and it had cue cards on the places where I could complete the dare.

T-Box- The newest and probably the best SMS client on Droid

I have been reviewing this new app called T-Box on my android device since a month. T-Box is an SMS app that replaces your native messaging app and transforms your Inbox into something totally interactive and different from your normal apps.

T-Box is like Gmail for your SMS inbox. It intelligently filters SMS's present in your inbox and segregates them into which are personal and which are promotional. Infact you can create any number of filters and sort your inbox to make it look organised and clean.

The White Elephant is in town!

Thai food in Bangalore is really hard to find. And if we get on to finding authentic Thai? It gets harder!

When we were invited to visit The White Elephant located on 100ft road Indiranagar, little did we know that we will come out with our tummies happy. The last time I had lipsmacking Thai food was at Benjarong, and now I have to say there is some competition. In my last post you did read that I had one of the best Thai curries at Hokey Cokey.

The latest gastropub in town- Hokey Cokey

Hokey cokey, what comes to your mind when you hear it? Something fun and different. That is what it perfectly is. Staying true to its nature, Koramangla has a new GastroPub that has the right ambience and looks great too.

I had the pleasure of visiting the place within a month of its opening and I must say, I havent seen so many people in any pubs, within one month of its launch! Two thumbs up for you guys. They have a wonderful elevated Dance Floor with the DJ around making sure you dont keep bumping into people sitting below. Being a roof top pub, the seating is nice and clean, giving ample space between tables.

We were about 6 of us and we were given the choice of ordering any thing from the menu that seemed interesting. First look at the menu, you dont see much for vegetarians but a closer look and you see that its all hidden behind awesome names. The drinks too, my favourite has to be Newton's law. I mean who would call a cocktail Newton's law?? That is the difference here. Initial reviews, it is here to stay.

Buyer aur Seller ka Perfect Match!!!

You must have seen these Advertisements running on Television by Quikr that go with the tagline " Buyer aur Seller ka Perfect Match". Well so I set off on my journey to find and buy something that I had been looking to buy. Rather than searching on these classifieds that come in newspaper I downloaded the Quikr app on my phone and setup my account. It didnt take long for me to set it up because years ago when Quikr was still new, I had created an account and attempted to sell things on it. And because it was still in its nascent stages no one really bought what I had to sell. This time around I was determined to get what I wanted!!

Game of Blogs- The Escape- Chapter 13

Team- FrontRunners

Read the previous chapter here

Aryan Ahuja had this thing about hanging around notorious gangsters since his teens. There was something that attracted him to them. Was it their lifestyle or their careless life? Probably he too was confused. He wanted it all. The bloodshed gave him an adrenaline rush. There was a don whom he looked up to and it was in his memory that he got a scorpion tattooed on his neck.

He loved guns and had a fetish for them. He collected all the guns that came into his possession and also made sure he bought the latest guns in the market. It did not take him long to climb up the ranks. Soon he was D's right man and called the shots when he could. Everyone around him envied his proximity to D. And he knew he wanted to be where D was and nothing could stop him. At 25, he could make anyone shit in their pants, by those looks that he gave. He had a towering personality, well built body, looked no less than a wrestler.

By 26 he had taken D out of his way and controlled Dubai, Europe and Australia. Mumbai had to obviously come into his hands. He inherited it.

On the other hand was Swami. No body knew if that was his real name. They only called him called him swami and he was often mistaken for a south indian because of the name. He was well built, had good looks and could have easily been a superhit hero if he ever tried. He had completed his engineering and circumstances pushed him into making bombs for D.

He was D's favourite and so got closed to Ahuja too. Together they could bomb any place and vanish without leaving a trace. They were the unbreakable trio that Mumbai feared. There was never an instance where anyone could reate misunderstandings between them. It was maybe because they knew each other so well and never hid anything from anyone.

And then one day...

Game of Blogs- The Escape- Chapter 4

Team FrontRunners
Week #1

Read the previous chapter here

A few years earlier...

There was a photo exhibition in the city where some new photographers had showcased their pictures hoping to sell a few and make some new clients. There was this one lady in the corner, in a brown long skirt, a green spaghetti and glasses. Her hair had been cut short only recently and she felt free. She had a tattoo on her right hand that read "Capture every moment". She was sitting idle, looking at all the people go around, some enquiring about the photographers, some trying to convince prospective clients. It was a mess. Jennifer however did not care. She was just there because the organisers wanted to put up the pictures she clicked as they were the best.

Shekhar never really ventured out for such outings. It was because of Kaveer, an old friend of his, and a renowned photographer wanted to find his next protege, he had to tag along. Sitting at home and writing was what he liked. This made him feel anxious! When they reached there, Kaveer got busy and Shekhar didn't know what to do. He did not observe the pictures as everyone else was. He just strolled around like a kid in a bar. Understanding nothing! But there was something that caught his eye. It was this lady sitting all by herself, playing with her dog tag and casually smiling at people who complimented on her work. He walked up to her and tried starting a conversation. He thought she was his kind. And was sitting there agaisnt her will. Little did he know that, that was going to change his life.

Jennifer had been brought up in the UAE, studied in The Indian School, and returned to Kochi to pursue photography. She was hardly 18, when she chose to take up photography full time. She was given the best of the cameras since childhood, because her father saw it early that she had it in her to be a wonderful photographer. Once in Kochi, she lived in her own apartment and carried her camera everywhere she went. She had this knack of capturing moments that very few could. She was one of the hottest girls in college and there wasnt a man who hadn't tried asking her out. Guys weren't sure what attracted them more, her legs or her eyes. A few flings later, she had one thing decided for sure, she did not want to date men of her age any longer. They were too immature for her. All just wanted to get in bed with her than getting to know her.

"Out of place in this bad bad world?", asked Shekhar.

"Not really, I hate it when I have to sell my work. I am here to capture pictures for myself, my satisfaction. I don't want to sell it to those bald heads!!!"
"Fuck, I didn't mean that literally, no offence intended", she pleaded to Shekhar.

"Hahaha, none taken lady. This bald head isn't here to buy anything. I was dragged along."

"Phew Thank God! do?" Jennifer tried to flirt, while playing with her hair.

In her mind, a lot of things were running. Shekhar was this lean bald head with a beard and glasses. He was someone who would have interested her.

"I am a freelance writer, Daddy to a little princess, I like sitting by the window and capture moments through words...", he said.

"That is interesting, what is your princess called?"

"Roohi" , he said while pulling out his phone excitedly and showed pictures of his daughter.

"Awww, she is so cute! Hey listen can I click her pictures? I have been waiting for an opportunity like this. Please don't say No."

Tara would love this idea, he said to himself. She had wanted to do a photoshoot for Roohi ever since she came into this world, and Jennifer would give them those pictures for free.

"Absolutely, I would love it if you would do that. I mean, I saw your work and I think you would be the perfect one"

"Alright then, here's my number. Call me when you guys are ready for it" Jennifer said, as her eyes gleamed with excitement and walked away.

Special Anniversary Celebrations at Sanctum Club

Sanctum Club at Chancery Pavilion completed one year of its existence in the city and to celebrate that, they had a special menu designed for the whole month. The menu consisted of items from its normal menu, and also some of the Chef's own creations.

It was my first visit to the place and I really liked how it opened up to me. It felt as though I was at some big party, with all the Red carpet etc. The minute you walk in, you are greeted with warmth. The lighting and the ambiance can be felt instantly. We were escorted into the "members only" area and given a corner for ourselves. Making sure that we were seated well, we had the manager and Chef Joaquin Albarreal Arjona laid out the whole evening for us.

The general menu at Sanctum is a product of carefully created flavourful works of art. Choose from a wide selection of Spanish, Mediterranean and Indian dishes and finish your meal on a sweet note of sinfully delicious desserts. With periodic new additions to the menu, the kitchen is constantly innovating at Sanctum. The bar boasts a variety of imported liqueurs with an exclusive selection of single malts, select wines and signature Sanctum cocktails.

The anniversary menu was handed over to us and we had to choose between the options given. I had to choose the vegetarian options for obvious reasons and for the Entree I went with a Broccoli and Almond Espresso. It was Broccoli cream soup with roasted Almonds and Broccoli cookies in the side. I love Broccoli as a vegetable in pastas and salads but having a soup made with it was a first for me. I totally loved the soup and literally gulped it down before it went cold. It left an excellent taste in the mouth and I didnt want to have anything else after that. And that was the Chef's mother's signature recipe.

Next came in the Appetizers, and we were served grilled Aubergine with wild rocket. I am not a fan of wild rocket because of its bitter flavour. Unfortunately, that stayed. I did not quite enjoy this particular dish. If there was a low in the whole evening, it was this.

For main course, the only vegetarian option was Wild Mushroom Risotto with truffle oil. This apparently was the dish that is ordered the most by customers, and after taking a spoonful, I knew why. It was YUM!!! If licking off the plate was socially acceptable... It was buttery and yum. The taste of the mushroom was just right and the truffle oil did not over take it.

The final part, the desert! We had a White chocolate mousse, Mango filled sphere, Apple fries and Strawberry Ketchup.  The mango filled sphere was the highlight. It had to be gulped whole and when it burst onto your palette, it left a lasting taste of mango.

With this we stayed around for a while because the music around had taken us to a totally different level. Would like to thank Burrp! for letting us experience this exclusive evening of fun, food and celebrations.

Forum Mall Koramangla- Night Safari experience

June 20-22 was the weekend when one of the oldest malls in the city, Forum, Koramangla organised a unique fest. It was one of it's kind where the activities started only in the evening and went up till midnight.

Usually we see such fests going on through out the day. And that is where Forum stood out. The Night Safari lived up to its name. The hustle and bustle started off post 7pm and went on till 12am for three whole days.

There were some awesome handicraft stalls put up, artists making some awesome caricatures, your face on mugs, drawn by artists and FOOD!! There were a line of stalls that were serving lipsmacking food and one had choices like chats, rolls, Indian, etc. The crowd too was hysteric being a weekend, it was truly like a safari ride where you would get to see so many things and enjoy.

Apart from this, there were excellent offers on a lot of brands. Some even had flat 50% off on most of their merchandise. It was a shopper's paradise. Imagine a sale of this sorts. How can you not expect women especially to flock the mall?

Post the shopping for my fiance, I had tickets to watch a horror movie as part of the Night Safari. I am normally scared of watching Horror movies alone, but I made an exception and went ahead and watched the late night show. It was scary as hell. I came out white. All thanks to the shrieking I did inside. Shhh...

I seriously hope to see this festival become an annual affair for the mall. It was a fun 3 day fest. Thank you Forum mall for this.

You can check out pictures on my Facebook.

Getting Mischevious!

During the IPL season, it is often hard to keep track of anything else because you are only cheering and supporting for your team.
Royal Challengers Bangalore is the team whom I follow always. They are my favorite team even though they are yet to win the Trophy. Just like me and more than me, there are others who follow my favorite Royal Challengers Bangalore team. They are the White Mischief Girls. They cheer RCB wherever they go and be with the team in Victory or loss.
I got an opportunity this season to interact with them and got a chance to groove along with them, the way they cheer RCB. Thanks to Team Ginger Claps, got an opportunity to spend some time with the White Mischief girls and got to know more about them.

Most of the cheer leaders are students and love traveling and learning cultures across countries. Most of them belong to the Rainbow nation – South Africa. This time, they enjoyed traveling to UAE as well as India as it gave them opportunity to support their team across countries too.

You can get yourself amongst White Mischief Girls too. Upload your pic and there you go. You will be in the center and dancing along with White Mischief Girls. Hit this link to upload your pic and groove with the girls. – . Do remember that this might not work on mobile.

Here is my video when I actually got to learn a few steps from them.

Rediscover your self

It was last year that straight after my college I walked into a job that I wasnt particularly excited about but had to take up. I worked there for 6 months before I was offered what I have always wanted to do. Acting. I quit my day job and took up an uncertain work where I never knew where life would take me.

I started acting in a full length feature film, that is due to release soon, but during that one month when I shot for my film, I started discovering things that I never knew about myself. It was during that, I realised that I can be really good in putting up a straight face and act comical, but at the same time suck at romance on screen.

While I have been waiting for the film to release I have also discovered things that I never knew I would do. A few are:
1. Photography is a passion I want to take up seriously
2. I enjoy acting more than direction.
3. I can make some awesome salads and eat them too.
4. Cooking never seemed better. I have enjoyed cooking up a meal for myself and my loved ones.
5. I have developed a strong liking for pets. Dogs especially. Though I cannot really bring home a dog, I wish I could.
6. I got engaged and life seems to have changed a lot. I have gotten more serious in life!
7. Travelling now tops my charts and I look for any opportunity that will allow me to travel anywhere and discover new places.

I still am discovering and will update this list as and when I can but, my soul searching is still on. I need to rekindle my passion for poetry, art and many more things. As of now, it is all lying dormant. Waiting for the next wave.
What is your soul search all about? How do you plan to do it? Do let me know.

LOFT 38- Review

A couple of weeks back, I was invited to try out the food at this wonderful place called Loft38 situated in Bangalore's Hauz Khas i.e. Indiranagar. Due to rains and stuff I reached really late and my sincere apologies to the staff whom I kept waiting. Nevertheless, this place opened about 5 months back in January if I am not wrong and since has been a total go to place.

Whenever I used to pass by the road the place would be very nicely lit and looked really nice from out. When I walked in, the interiors I observed were excellent. Setting up the right mood for the food that was going to be served. I walked in at 9ish, which is the right time before the actual party starts. The music had just begun and people were settling in.

The End: Safe Drinking

It sounds like a mixed message: Drinking alcohol may offer some health benefits, especially for your heart. On the other hand, alcohol may increase your risk of health problems and damage your heart.
So which is it? When it comes to drinking alcohol, the key is doing so only in moderation. Certainly, you don't have to drink any alcohol, and if you currently don't drink, don't start drinking for the possible health benefits. In some cases, it's safest to avoid alcohol entirely — the possible benefits don't outweigh the risks.
Here's a closer look at the connection between alcohol and your health.

Health benefits of moderate alcohol use

Moderate alcohol consumption may provide some health benefits. It may:
  • Reduce your risk of developing and dying from heart disease
  • Possibly reduce your risk of ischemic stroke (when the arteries to your brain become narrowed or blocked, causing severely reduced blood flow)
  • Possibly reduce your risk of diabetes
Even so, the evidence about the possible health benefits of alcohol isn't certain, and alcohol may not benefit everyone who drinks.

Guidelines for moderate alcohol use

If you choose to drink alcohol, do so only in moderation. For healthy adults, that means up to one drink a day for women of all ages and men older than age 65, and up to two drinks a day for men age 65 and younger.
Examples of one drink include:
  • Beer: 12 fluid ounces (355 milliliters)
  • Wine: 5 fluid ounces (148 milliliters)
  • Distilled spirits (80 proof): 1.5 fluid ounces (44 milliliters)
Moderate alcohol use may be of most benefit if you're an older adult or if you have existing risk factors for heart disease. If you're a middle-aged or younger adult, some evidence shows that even moderate alcohol use may cause more harm than good. You can take other steps to benefit your cardiovascular health besides drinking — eating a healthy diet and exercising, for example.

So no matter what you do, drink responsibly and savour your Black Dog Triple Gold Reserve in a moderate level because you don't want  to end up with a health hazard.
